The collection consists primarily of programs, pamphlets, correspondence, and reports. It features a significant run of BYPU programs, important early pamphlets about BYPU organization and field work, and reports of field work. In addition, the collection includes correspondence, Sunday School Board business and policy materials, and covers Lee's denominational activities from 1908 to 1955. The major topics and issues included in the papers are: the early history and development of the Baptist Young People's Union, the Baptist Training Union, church work with youth, and the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Included in the correspondence files are letters from Baptist leaders such as: O.K. Armstrong, W.O. Carver, Corinne Byrd, W. A. Criswell, J.M. Frost, T.C. Gardner, W.A. Harrell, Brooks Hays, Jerry E. In 1906, Lee was elected state BYPU secretary of Texas. He worked in collaboration with Corresponding Secretary J. B. Gambrell to organize 200 new unions. Two years later, Lee was elected as the first Southwide Baptist Young People's Union field secretary for the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, serving until his retirement in 1946. Affectionately known as "Mr. Training Union" for his prolific publications and avid promotion of church training programs, Jerry Lambdin began his career at the Baptist Sunday School Board in 1925 as the associate to Landrum Leavell in the Department of Student Work. In 1929, he became secretary of the Board's Baptist Young People's Union, where he served until 1959. Before joining the Board, Lambdin was a Sergeant in the First World War.
